Liverpool Hospital Emergency Department - Improving Service Levels in Hospitals recipientsLiverpool Hospital used to have consistent difficulties offloading patients arriving via ambulance. This resulted in reduced access to care for patients who arrived via ambulance. It had a negative impact on staff satisfaction, cost, consumer experience and increased ambulances not being able to adequately respond to emergency calls. To address these challenges, a strategy was developed and implemented at Liverpool Hospital. After this intervention, the benchmark was reached during 31 out of 43 weeks – a significant improvement. This was achieved via enhanced service delivery within a new model of care that was purposefully patient centred. The impact was not only on Liverpool Hospital, but on the community and the NSW Ambulance Service.
